DuPont™ Tyvek® DrainWrap™

Grooved Air and Water-Resistive and Air Barrier (WRB) Engineered to Enhance Drainage
DuPont™ Tyvek® DrainWrap™ offers excellent drainage and durability for residential construction. Vertical grooves on the surface of Tyvek® DrainWrap™ make it a superior water-resistive barrier (WRB), engineered to channel bulk water away from the wall systems and drain safely to the outside.

Combined with the superior air and water resistance, vapor permeability and strength of the Tyvek® Brand, Tyvek® DrainWrap™ provides enhanced drainage behind claddings such as primed wood (all six sides), fiber cement siding, and foam board applied over flat surfaces.

FAQ

What’s the difference between DuPont™ Tyvek® CommercialWrap® D and DuPont™ Tyvek® DrainWrap™?
Each of the WRBs help with drainage, with both having a 98% or greater drainage efficiency per ASTM E2273. The major difference between the two WRBs is the UV exposure. Tyvek® CommercialWrap® D can be left exposed for 9 months while Tyvek® DrainWrap™ has a 4-month UV exposure. These UV exposure limits were designed for the products applications. CommercialWrap® D is typically used on commercial projects while DrainWrap™ is used on residential projects. For additional information regarding application and use refer to the installation guidelines for the applicable project type.
Can DuPont™ Tyvek® DrainWrap™ be used under brick?
Yes. It is perfectly acceptable to use DuPont™ Tyvek®DrainWrap™ under brick. It is also acceptable to use Tyvek® HomeWrap® and Tyvek® CommercialWrap® in this application. When using Tyvek® WRBs under brick, it is important to follow the brick manufacturer’s guidelines regarding the use of an air space between the brick veneer and sheathing. Typically, this space is 1-2 inches, and will act as a drainage plane if incidental moisture penetrates the brick, in addition to ventilating behind the cladding, which aids in drying of the wall assembly.
