FR face masks & COVID-19: What you need to know

Why the right mask matters

To combat the spread of COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended the use of face masks in public settings. Although many people can simply wear surgical or cotton masks, it is critical that firefighters and other emergency responders use face coverings that are properly matched with their flame-resistant (FR) garments.

Don’t let the wrong mask put you at risk

At DuPont, we’re committed to providing essential workers with the heat and flame protection they need for the hazards they face, while adhering to CDC guidelines.

When selecting the right FR face mask, it is always important to remember the “big 3” considerations: fire resistance, particulate blocking and viral protection.

Properly designed masks, balaclavas, gaiters and hoods made with DuPont™ Nomex® can help meet CDC guidelines for COVID-19 and are compliant with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1500 regulations. Unlike chemically treated fabrics, Nomex® is inherently flame resistant and won’t melt, drip or burn when exposed to heat or flame.
